    A new study on physical activity that involved more than half a million participants over age 40 found that modest exercise increases life expectancy regardless of weight.

    Estima-se que 12 bilhões de dias de trabalho são perdidos anualmente por causa da depressão e da ansiedade, custando à economia mundial quase 1 trilhão de dólares. Os dados são do relatório Diretrizes sobre Saúde Mental no Trabalho, publicado pela Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) em setembro de 2022, e confirmam a necessidade de se trazer o debate ainda mais à tona. Na mesma época, a Organização Internacional do Trabalho (OIT) publicou uma nota conjunta com a OMS, na qual as novas diretrizes são explicadas por meio de estratégias práticas para governos, empregadores, trabalhadores e suas organizações, nos setores públicos e privados. “De acordo com as diretrizes globais, 60% da população mundial trabalha e esse trabalho pode impactar a saúde mental tanto de forma positiva quando negativa. As diretrizes também apontam questões importantes referentes à inserção e à permanência de pessoas com problemas de saúde mental no mercado de trabalho. Além do estigma e das barreiras que essas pessoas vivenciam para ingressar no mercado de trabalho, a ausência de estruturas de suporte afeta a sustentação das atividades laborais”, explica a consultora nacional de saúde mental da OMS, Cláudia Braga.
    De acordo com o Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social (INSS), em 2022, 209.124 mil pessoas foram afastadas do trabalho por transtornos mentais, entre depressão, distúrbios emocionais e Alzheimer, enquanto, em 2021, foram registrados 200.244 afastamentos. “Esse cenário nos mostra a importância de discutirmos essas questões e esperamos que essas diretrizes possam nortear os debates sobre as responsabilidades dos diferentes atores, de modo a mobilizarmos esforços para prevenir os impactos negativos do trabalho na saúde mental, promover e proteger a saúde mental e o bem-estar dos trabalhadores e trabalhadoras, assim como dar suporte às pessoas com problemas de saúde mental para que tenham seus direitos garantidos”, afirma a consultora da OMS.
