Por que o criador do botão “curtir” do Facebook apagou as redes sociais do celular

“A tecnologia só deve prender nossa atenção nos momentos em que nós queremos, conscientemente, prestar atenção nela. Em todos os outros casos, deve ficar fora do nosso caminho.” Quem afirma isso não é um dos críticos tradicionais das redes sociais ou um psicólogo preocupado com o vício em internet, mas justamente o executivo responsável pela criação do botão curtir nos primórdios do Facebook, ___ mais de dez anos.

Depois de perceber que as notificações de aplicativos como o próprio Facebook, Instagram e Twitter ocupavam boa parte do seu dia, eram distrativas e o afastavam das relações na vida real, o matemático Justin Rosenstein decidiu apagar todas as redes sociais, aplicativos de e-mails e notícias de seu iPhone, em busca de mais “presença” no mundo off-line. “Percebi que frequentemente estava usando meu telefone como uma muleta, para filmar momentos em tempo real, ou que meu telefone vibrava e me tirava do momento enquanto eu tentava ter uma conexão emocional profunda com alguém”, conta. “(Temos que) permitir que pessoas não se comuniquem apenas on-line e compartilhem fotos de si mesmas, mas efetivamente se encontrem e tenham conexões profundas e verdadeiras pessoalmente”.

A principal consequência inesperada, segundo o executivo, é o fato de as redes sociais hoje prenderem nossa atenção independentemente da nossa intenção - ou de nossa vontade. “Muitas vezes, nos vemos subindo e descendo telas no telefone, e 30 minutos depois sentimos que não foi um tempo bem gasto, sentimos que perdemos um pedaço do dia”, diz. “Eu acho que é muito importante dar atenção ___ isso e fazer essas escolhas sobre como eu quero passar meu dia.”

Rosenstein afirma que há outros aplicativos em seu telefone, como Google Maps, ou aplicativos de meditação ou notas, que são ótimos para transformar seu telefone em algo mágico no seu bolso. “Se eu quiser fazer um carro vir até mim, posso fazer isso. Se quiser saber o caminho para um lugar, também posso. Esses aplicativos são muito úteis. Para os outros... bem, eu ainda uso redes sociais, mas ao esperar até voltar para o computador, sou capaz de moderar meu comportamento com mais facilidade e gastar 20 minutos por dia fazendo isso, em vez de algo que estou constantemente checando, mesmo inconscientemente”.

Even those who can afford to buy find it difficult to trust any tomato product, and some have started buying imported tinned tomatoes. “Nobody knows now which tomatoes are safe to eat and some people are avoiding them altogether.”
