English learning in Brazil

Statutory and the National Curricular Guidelines make the teaching of a ......................................... language at elementary and high school ................................... . However, teachers and experts acknowledge that English teaching - both public and private - is unable to provide students with a usable level of English. They identify similar reasons to those that cause other problems in basic education: the lack of language teaching equipment and over-filled classrooms.

There are also fundamental problems with the amount of time set aside for teaching English and it is hard to find adequately qualified teachers. In these conditions English teaching is reduced to the basic rules of grammar, reading short texts and learning to pass multiple choice exams for university admittance. Even government officials admit that English teaching in basic education has many shortcomings. The National Curricular Guidelines (which outline the curriculum for each subject) are well articulated, but cannot be applied fully in practice. Officials have pointed out that there are no language labs in schools as there is little funding available for them.

They feel that this limits oral communication, a problem that many educators have argued is exacerbated by the large number of students in the classroom. Government representatives and teachers alike have bemoaned the poor quality of language teachers working in basic language education. They argue that a bachelor degree in literature coupled with a teaching license does not prepare a language teacher for the reality of the classroom and to effectively teach the language. There is a widely held belief that these teachers are unlikely to have actually had the means to visit English speaking countries and lack the communication practice required to develop the command of a language. Experts have argued that it would be helpful to send teachers to travel to English speaking countries.

The shortcomings of language teaching in Brazil have resulted in a shortage of professionals who can speak English well. That limits contact between professionals, clients and suppliers and restricts international business opportunities. This affects the whole country - if Brazil is to function fully in the global arena it will need professionals better equipped with English.

Why Learning Is A New Procrastination

  1. The tremendous world of online courses, blogs, social media, free eBooks, podcasts, and
  2. webinars provides the best ever opportunity to broaden your knowledge in almost every sphere
  3. you can imagine. Thanks to technological advancement and the instant access to the internet,
  4. everyone can now study from home. It seems like it would be foolishly not to seize this
  5. opportunity and improve your skills and knowledge. Moreover, you are kind of forced to do so
  6. since the contemporary world has raised the bar higher than ever before. It literally invited you
  7. to gather the pace and ___________ even more.
  8. It is not surprising that, ultimately, you try to be everywhere and do everything. No doubt,
  9. you do your best to constantly gather tiny bits of information from as many channels as
  10. possible, because you are afraid that you will fall behind if you stop. After all, you enter a
  11. learning crunch mode. You do not afford to miss anything and try to read every book you could
  12. get your hands on. You listen to every single podcast your smartphone could download and take
  13. every online course your paycheck would allow to take.
  14. All in all, you learn. As much as possible. As intense as you manage to. You learn how to
  15. write and publish a new book. You learn how to launch a successful blog. You learn how to hit
  16. your goal on Kickstarter. You learn how to build the next “unicorn”. You learn how to land a job
  17. of your dream. You learn how to successfully sell thousands of items on Amazon. You learn how
  18. to make millions of dollars in passive income.
  19. However, the problem is that you do everything except taking action. All those activities do
  20. not take you closer to the things you want to accomplish. Better knowledge does not make you
  21. more influential, powerful, and successful unless you apply it. The key secret to success is not
  22. ________ expertise, but the ability to use it.
  23. Knowledge is worthless unless it is applied. Needless to say that studying is crucial.
  24. However, the thing is that it should take the entirely new form now. You should stop learning
  25. from someone else’s experiences, knowledge, failures, and wins and start learning from your
  26. own mistakes, adventures, ___________, and bold actions.
  27. Learning has become a major trend of the 21st century. Sadly, it has also become a new
  28. form of procrastination. You consciously postpone the first step justifying this by your eagerness
  29. to broaden the knowledge and learn new things. You put the start date off justifying this by
  30. your desire to pick up new skills that would help you succeed faster. You procrastinate over
  31. chasing your own aspirations because doing the things on your own and creating your own story
  32. of success is far more complicated than reading about someone else’s one. Meanwhile, no one
  33. would really reproach you for wasting your time. Also, you feel comfortable about staying within
  34. this zone of ease and convenience forever.
  35. However, the point is that you already have and know everything you need to start off. In
  36. fact, there is nothing more you need to learn in order to take the first step. Embrace the truth.
  37. No matter how good your theoretical knowledge is, you will face a lot of obstacles while
  38. applying it. You will have to deal with issues that have never been described or covered in any
  39. book. You will have to look for the solutions and make the spontaneous decisions that no one
  40. probably has ever thought of. You will have to design your own road to success.
  41. Transform your learning process from the continuous the procrastination into an
  42. unstoppable process of absorbing invaluable expertise based on your own experience. It might
  43. seem counterintuitive, but the old-fashioned way of learning is what holds you back. This is
  44. what makes your triumphs suck.
  45. Constant learning, evaluating of ideas, thinking, and visualizing your journey towards your
  46. major aspirations will not take you far from the place you are now. Actions will. You can sit and
  47. research, and research, and research, while someone else is already reaping huge rewards for
  48. his or her fruitful and hard work. Stop learning now. Become bold enough to take the first step
  49. and start learning from your own experience.

_____________ plays an increasingly important role in language education, both as a feature of foreign language teaching and learning, and as an element of bilingual and plurilingual education. As learners develop their language competences, they are able to deal with evermore complex topics, so teaching material needs to offer learners interesting and challenging subject matter. One way to do this is through it where language and subject teachers work together; language teachers acquire subject knowledge and subject teachers acquire expertise in combining language development with teaching the content effectively.

Popular hot drink 'lowers blood glucose levels in weeks - and could help prevent diabetes and silent killers'

(1º§) Drinking more green tea made significant improvements to health - a finding which surprised US researchers. They believe the brew could offset risk factors that are linked to metabolic syndrome.

(2º§) Metabolic syndrome, according to the NHS, is the medical term for a combination of diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension) and obesity. Therefore, people are more likely to have metabolic syndrome if they are overweight, and have poor or high levels of cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar.

(3º§) However, the new study, by Ohio State University, suggests green tea could improve all these factors. And in turn, it could slash the odds of deadly complications related to metabolic syndrome - coronary heart disease and stroke. A group of 40 people were recruited for the study. For one part of the study, they took green tea supplements for 28 days.

(4º§) The gummy sweets contained the compound catechinsdose and was the equivalent of five cups of green tea. ___ another 28 days, they had dummy pills, according to the findings published in Current Developments in Nutrition. In both parts of the experiments they ate a diet that was low in fruit and veg to make sure any positive results could be attributed to green tea, and not a healthy diet.

(5º§) The results showed that fasting blood glucose levels for all participants were significantly lower during the green-tea phase. Poo samples showed fewer markers of gut inflammation, and "leaky gut" was reduced. Leaky gut, or gut permeability, is when the gut lining has cracks or holes in, allowing bacteria to enter the bloodstream and cause inflammation.

(6º§) This is thought to be an "initiating factor for obesity and insulin resistance, which are central to all cardiometabolic disorders", according to Richard Bruno, senior study author and professor of human nutrition. He said: "If we can improve gut integrity and reduce leaky gut, the thought is we'll be able to not only alleviate low-grade inflammation that initiates cardiometabolic disorders, but potentially reverse them."

(7º§) All the participants - half healthy and half with metabolic syndrome - saw benefits, an unexpected finding for the research team. Prof Bruno said: "What this tells us is that within one month we're able to lower blood glucose ___ both people with metabolic syndrome and healthy people.

(8º§) "The lowering of blood glucose appears to be related to decreasing leaky gut and decreasing gut inflammation - regardless of health status." But Prof Bruno added: "We did not attempt to cure metabolic syndrome with a one-month study. "But based on what we know about the causal factors behind metabolic syndrome, there is potential for green tea to be acting at least in part ___ the gut level to alleviate the risk for either developing it or reversing it if you already have metabolic syndrome."

(9º§) Most often, doctors will tell people at risk of metabolic syndrome to improve their lifestyle habits - eat healthier and exercise more. "Unfortunately, we know most persons can't comply with lifestyle modifications for various reasons," Prof Bruno said. Green tea isn't as popular in the Western world as it is in the East, where it has origins in China.

(10º§) It's touted as a healthy drink because studies have found evidence it helps with weight loss, heart disease risk and even cancer. But the findings aren't very strong and are often observational, have small sample sizes or other limitations.
